The Peoples Choice Awards – Secret Life of Bees

The Secret Life of Bees won two PCAs last night – one for Favorite Movie Drama and one for Favorite Independent Movie.

This win shows that a movie starring 4 African American female leads (plus Dakota Fanning) can draw people to the box office. Will and Jada Smith produced the film and Gina Prince-Bythewood of Love and Basketball credit directed the film.

Congrats to all of the ladies and gents.

Jennifer Hudson was not there, of course, due to her family tragedy. This is truly sad. You dream of fame and fortune and once you get it some thug takes your family away from you.

There have been rumors that maybe she will perform at the inauguration. Then those were shot down by her publicist. Then there are reports that she is to hit the stage in February 6 in the Recording Academy's Musicares Person of the Year Gala.

I hope she can get through this part of her life, I guess you never really get over it.

What say you?

  1. That was a good movie. It had me crying. And movies don’t easily pull tears from me.
My heart goes out to J Hud. I don’t think I’d ever get over something like that. Your mom and your nephew taken from you over some foolishness? I can’t imagine what she is going through.

  2. TSLOB is a tear jerker. I was surprised at the little love scene with Dakota and Tristan, the whole finger sucking scene. The movie was pretty bold in that regards.

Jennifer may have to work to keep from being sucked into depression. I am no psychologist but hopefully she will know that her mom will always be with her and God will never leave nor forsake her.
