I think a singer who’s been alive for long enough to have lived during a time that seeing a black man as president was unthinkable should get the nod.
Maybe Aretha Franklin or Patti LaBelle.
I’m a Gladys Knight girl myself. Or maybe Liz Wright. She is a lillte less known but has an amazing voice.
I don’t think either one can bring the type of solemnity that that the situation calls for. I think the pseudo-controversy has damaged what their performances could be.
