President Barack Obama

Rosa Parks sat so Martin could march.

Martin marched so Obama could run.

Obama ran so that our children could fly!!!!

  1. It is a beautiful day for America. My son voted for Barack Obama on nick.com everyday for a month. He wanted to make sure that his vote counted. I voted on election day and my voice as well as the nation’s voice was heard.
A new day, a new beginning, is here.
I went to a 9 yr olds birthday party this past weekend and I was tickled, encouraged, and awed by the 7, 8, and 9 year old African American young men at the party. Several small things caught my eye but I will tell of one in particular. They played musical chairs and some of the folding chairs were black and some were tan. One little boy said that he was in the Barack Obama chair and another little boy who was in a tan chair said that he was in a Barack Obama chair. The first little boy replied back to little boy #2 that he was in a John McCain chair. The first little boy said you need to shut it because you are in a broke down Sarah Palin chair. I laughed my head off for 5 minutes and slowly took it in that our children for the first time in history see themselves and our people in a new and beautiful way. The process of self actualization for them isn’t inhibited by the limitations of racism and hate. America the Beautiful indeed….
I am deeply encouraged by what the future will hold. The stuggles and all….

  2. WOW TB:
Are we growing romantic about politics in our old age? Just kidding. I laughed out loud at that ‘broke down Sara Palin chair’. I swear I’m gonna use that on this week.

  3. Here is a poem by Langston Hughes that I think fits very well into the election of Barack Obama as our next president. The title of the poem is “I, too, sing America”. Here it goes:
    I,too, sing America.
    I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
    When company comes,
    But I laugh,
    And eat well,
    And grow strong.
    Tomorrow,
    I’ll be at the table
    When company comes.
    Nobody’ll dare say to me,
    “Eat in the kitchen”, then.
    Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
    And be ashamed…
    I, too, am America.
    -Langston Hughes-
