Colin Powell Endorses Barack Obama

The news and pundits were all aflutter with the forceful endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama by former Secretary of State Colin Powell. The McCain camp claims it was not surprised just "disappointed".

There was the usual back in forth by the spin doctors on both sides. What took the cake for me was a statement by MSNBC's resident closeted racist and anti-semite Pat Buchanan. He basically asserted that Colin Powell, the most respected black conservative, endorsed Barack Obama based totally on race.

Colin Powell? The same Colin Powell that has been lampooned by many African Americans for his position in a party that seriously lacks diversity. The same Colin Powell that made the case to the UN for the war in Iraq. The one time he doesn't toe the party line he is accused of tribalism.

It amazes me that Pat Buchanan is a presence on national television given his scurrilous past and associations. This is the same guy who sings and endless song of Rev Wright/William Ayers in reference to Barack Obama.

Anyway, take a look at the endorsement:

  1. As the Republican ship begins to sink fast, conservatives have started to head for the hills. In the New York Times, David Brooks(a conservative) berated McCain for his choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate. In the Washington Post, Charles Krauthammer (another conservative) said that Palin was “not ready” for the big time. In the National Review, Kathleen Parker (yet another conservative) said that Palin should “bow out”. In the Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan (she used to help Ronald Reagan write his speeches) said that she isn’t too sure who she’ll be voting for. Wick Allison (a conservative), former Publisher of the National Review ( a very conservative magazine) wrote that today’s conservatism “has produced financial mismangaement… and the wreckage of our economy that McCain now threatens to make worse.” Colin Powell is the latest conservative to leave. In other words, this is what I’m saying: as more and more of the respectable conservatives leave, the only ones we are left with are the weird-o’s like Pat Buchanan and Rush Limbaugh.

  2. Colin Powell’s remarks sum up what many of my Republican friends feel about Barack. I am not shocked at his endorsement. He was thrown under the bus when he tried to convince the United Nations to go to war with some old aerial photos from 1955, testimony from political prisoners, and a powerpoint presentation that a 5th grader could have thrown together.

  3. Ms. Talulazoeaplle, they’ve got to legitimize somebody. As I’ve said, all the respectable conservatives have left leaving us with the nut cases like Pat Buchanan, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and George Will.
